ABOUT THIS EVENT
Who can ride?
The rides are open to people of all ages who want to fundraise in support African grandmothers and the transformation of communities hit hardest by AIDS. Registration will open June1st. The Friendship Rides in August will be limited to 25 people and we hope they can raise a minimum of $200 each. Choose to do one or all the rides and/or the 50/100km rides on Sept. 8.
On Sunday September 8, the ride is limited to 40 dedicated fundraisers who expect to raise more than +$500 -- registered on a first-come, first-served basis. E-bikes are permitted, and so are "spinners" who will ride virtually.
What the riders say:
"I know you'll ask for feedback, but I can't contain the positive feedback I want to share: it was fabulous. Every aspect of the day was positive. All the cheering grandmothers and grandothers really made a difference. I felt completely spoiled at every turn, with coffee and tea and fruit and treats, and a grandmother lending me her jacket at the first rest stop, and a delicious strawberry ice cream cone at the bathroom break stop after lunch; and the great experience of biking 100k which I wouldn't go do on my own but it is made possible due all the work of all the Gogos. The dinner venue was fantastic, and I was inspired by the range of ages; both the younger riders and the older riders are rock stars." Carolyn, 2019
"It’s been said, but thank you for one of the best-organized events imaginable. The arrows from every direction, the food, the good spirit, and all the support." Roger, 2019
Why just 40 cyclists?
This is NOT an "elite" cycling ride. A limit of forty adult cyclists on the road at one time enables the organizers meet the needs of our riders.
Fundraising:
These are a fundraising cycle rides in support of the Stephen Lewis Foundation’s Grandmothers to Grandmothers Campaign. The SLF sends 90% of funds to carefully selected community projects in 14 African countries. The funds are used in support of African grandmothers who have undertaken the nurturing, safety and education of some of 14 million children orphaned by AIDS. To learn more about the Grandmothers Campaign please click the box link below.
This year our combined goal for all the cycle rides is to raise $60,000.
Because we have a limited number of spots in each of the rides, we ask that you take the requirement of fundraising into consideration when registering. Participants are NOT required to make up the goal of $200 or $500 depending on your ride, but we do hope you will wholeheartedly make an effort to reach that goal.
If this is your first time fundraising and you are unsure of how much you can raise, we are happy to help with ideas and letters, or you might want to try one of the Friendship rides.
How it works:
When you register, we will send you the link to the secure team fundraising page. Then you can open your own personalized fundraising page and write your own message to ask your friends to sponsor you.
